How Much Do Facebook Ads Cost for a Detailing or Ceramic Coating Shop?

Based on current benchmarks, a detailing or ceramic coating shop can expect to pay roughly $25 to $80 per lead on Facebook and Instagram, so a budget of $1,000 to $2,000 a month buys a few dozen leads. What you actually pay depends on the job you advertise, your video, and how fast you answer.

Here is where those numbers come from, and how to figure out what a booked car really costs you.

What the benchmarks say

There is no public benchmark just for detailers, so the closest data is Meta ads data for all industries and for automotive service.

BenchmarkNumber
Median cost per lead, all industries (2026)$27.39
Median cost per click on lead ads, all industries (2026)$1.80
Median lead conversion rate, all industries (2026)8.54%
Cost per click, auto repair, service and parts (traffic ads, 2026)$0.74
Cost per lead, auto repair and parts (earlier data set)$81.45

The 2026 figures come from WordStream's 2026 Facebook Ads Benchmarks, as reported by PPC Land. The $81.45 figure is from an earlier WordStream data set, summarized by Web Tonic. Some industry lines in these reports rest on a small number of campaigns, so treat them as a rough range, not a target.

What the table tells a shop owner: clicks from car people are cheap, but turning them into a lead is harder than in most industries. That gap is where good creative and a simple offer pay off.

A lead is not a booked car

The number that matters is cost per booked job. Here is how to work it out with your own numbers. As an example, say you spend $1,500 in a month:

  • At $30 per lead, you get 50 leads.
  • If one in four books, that is about 12 cars.
  • Your cost per booked car is about $125.

Now plug in your real average ticket. A $125 cost is a bad trade on a quick exterior wash and a very good one on a multi-year ceramic coating or a full paint correction. That is why many shops advertise their higher-ticket service and let the smaller jobs come from repeat customers and Google.

How much should a detail shop spend?

Meta's system needs data to learn who books. Its guidance has long pointed to about 50 results per ad set within 7 days to get through the "learning phase," according to AdManage's guide to Meta's documentation. A small shop rarely hits that, which is why results swing week to week on tiny budgets.

Practical rules for a single shop:

  • Start with one campaign and one ad set. Splitting $40 a day across five audiences gives Meta five half-starved tests.
  • Give it at least three to four weeks before judging. Early weeks usually cost more per lead.
  • Budget for a few dozen leads a month. At the benchmark costs above, 40 to 70 leads means roughly $1,100 to $1,900 in spend. Fewer leads than that and results are hard to read.

Seasons change your costs in Chicago

Two things move your cost per lead around here.

The holidays. Retailers flood Meta with ads from mid-November through mid-December. One agency's tracking of late 2025 saw Meta ad prices rise about 11% in both the second half of November and the first half of December, then drop after mid-December, per GeistM. Plan gift card and holiday package ads with that in mind.

The weather. Demand for coatings, tint and full details picks up when the salt is gone in spring. Winter is a good time to build an audience with video views, so you can retarget those same people when the spring rush starts.

What makes detailing ads cheaper

Lead with the reveal. A 20-second clip of a salt-stained interior coming back to life, or water beading off a freshly coated hood, does the selling for you. Put the finished car in the first second.

Advertise one service at a time. "Ceramic coating in Schaumburg" beats "full-service auto spa." A clear ad attracts the right people and scares off the wrong ones.

Answer fast. A lead who asked about coating at 8 p.m. is also asking two other shops. Reply that night with a text, a couple of photos of similar cars, and a link to book.

Keep the radius tight. Most people want a detailer close to home or work. Mobile detailers should match ads to the towns they actually serve.

Retarget your video viewers. People who watched most of a reveal video are warm. A follow-up ad with a review or a booking link usually costs less per lead than reaching strangers.

Is it worth it?

If your average job is worth a few hundred dollars and someone can answer leads quickly, Facebook and Instagram ads can fill the calendar. If your phone goes to voicemail all day, fix that first. No ad budget makes up for slow replies.
