Meta shipped a lot in October 2026, but only a handful of changes matter to a detail, tint, wrap or PPF shop. The big ones: a setting that changed where taps on your existing ads can go, AI video made from your photos, new Facebook feed controls for users, and a carousel editor in Edits. Here is what changed and what to do about each.
1. Check where your ads send people (product browsing)
Meta told advertisers it would turn on "product browsing" for existing Facebook and Instagram ads on October 28 unless they opted out, according to PPC Land. With it on, a tap can open an in-app page with product details instead of going straight to your website. Meta's notice did not say exactly which ad types are affected.
What to do: The opt-out date has passed, but you can still switch it on or off per ad in the Advantage+ creative and Destination settings. Open each running ad and confirm a tap lands on your booking page or quote form. For a coating or tint shop, a booked appointment is the goal, not a product page.
2. Meta can now turn your photos into video ads
At Advertising Week on October 6, Meta said its Advantage+ creative tool that generates video from existing static images is now generally available, as reported by Social Media Today.
What to do: Try it on your best before and after photos, but watch every version before it runs. AI motion can make paint look wrong or smear a tint line. Real footage from your bay, like a foam pre-wash or a water-beading test on a fresh coating, still builds more trust. Use the AI version as an extra test, not a replacement.
3. New ways to aim ads at new vs. past customers
Meta also announced a Customer Lifecycle Strategy setting, available to all advertisers, that lets you define who each campaign is for so Meta's recommendations follow that goal. It is testing a way to exclude existing customers using audience labels, according to Relevant Audience. The exclusion is only a test, so you may not see it yet.
What to do: Split your thinking into two campaigns. One finds new customers in towns like Schaumburg, Arlington Heights and Palatine. The other brings past customers back for a maintenance wash, a coating top-up or winter salt removal. Keep your customer list current so you are ready if the exclusion tool reaches your account.
4. Facebook users can now tell the feed what they want
On October 13, Meta announced "Your algorithm" on Facebook. People open it from the three-dot menu, add topics they want more or less of in Feed and Reels, and can describe in their own words what they like, Meta said. Recommendations update in real time. Meta says it is rolling out but gave no timeline.
What to do: Car people will pick topics like detailing, car care and car mods. Make it obvious what your posts are about. Say "ceramic coating on a black Tahoe" in the caption and on screen, not just "fresh one." Clear topics help Facebook match your Reels to the people who asked for them.
5. Edits now makes carousels
Instagram's Edits app added a carousel editor on October 7, with layouts, text styles and custom stickers for photos and video. It is live on iPhone, and Android is "coming soon," Social Media Today reported.
What to do: Carousels suit a wrap or PPF install. Build one post from a single job:
- Slide 1: the finished car, best angle.
- Slide 2: the "before," with chips or faded paint visible.
- Slides 3 to 5: prep, install, trimming edges.
- Last slide: the film or color name and how to book.
Still a test: 90-minute videos on Instagram
On October 26, Instagram announced "Features," long videos up to 90 minutes, plus a tool that cuts clips from them into Reels, TechCrunch reported. It is a test in Brazil, with a small U.S. test to follow. You likely cannot use it yet, and short Reels are still where shops get found.
What you can skip
Meta also launched premium brand formats in October, including Ads Super Burst, which books a 3 to 24 hour high-reach window, and First Impression Ads, a U.S. test for the first ad slot in Feed, per Social Media Today. These are built for big brands with big budgets. A local shop does not need them.
